I always seem to get this question, so here is my explanation:
The Saboteur is your inner voice that talks to you … psychologists call it ‘self-talk’, I call it the ‘Saboteur voice’. It is the little voice in your head that directs your actions. If that voice takes over you can head for disaster, it will misdirect you and make you do things you really don’t want or try to avoid.
Some examples of your Saboteur’s voice can be:
- I’ll do that business report later, maybe tomorrow…. then ‘tomorrow’ turns into next week.
- I’ll start my new work out routine next week….. in a month you still say that.
- I’ll do what my friend told me. This is excusing yourself.
- This will go away. You pretend it will.
- I really can’t do this….. I wish I could.
- I blame it on ______ ……it is really not my fault.
In summary, there’s something you really need to do – it is important – but you never end up doing it. Or the voice talks to you negatively and brings you down.
Many times in my life my Saboteur has taken over and I made some not so good decisions. When I learned how to identify my Saboteur, I was able to send her away. Our Saboteur, or inner voice, is always present when there is a change or an action that should happen. The inner voice kicks in with excuses. You want to play it safe, not really risk anything, but often you pay a price for doing that.
If your Saboteur takes over and you feel stuck with it –
Remember your inner strengths and concentrate on the ‘possessiveness of you’. Identify something that no one can take away from you.
What is your “rock”?
If you remember your strengths and focus on the positiveness, the saboteur has less power. It will diminish.
Be aware how much your Saboteur is holding you back. Watch your saboteur talking to you. With some people the Saboteur wins, and their fear wins, and they will never move on. They are in a dilemma, they want so badly to change, but can’t.
The saboteur keeps you from what you truly want instead of what you think you should do. Listen for YOUR Saboteur that is holding you back.
I work with many clients and we work on the Saboteur issues. These issues can be control, they can be fear, or they can be self-doubt, blame etc. We all have our own Saboteur’s – let’s conquer them and become the person we really want to be !
Create a great day….. Make every hour count……. Be the person you want to be…….
